Derivation of the Shape of Raindrops

چکیده
To a layperson, a raindrop would have the shape of a tear drop, as often renditioned in popular media. However, to an acute individual, and as pointed out fervently by Fraser [17], a raindrop would have more of a spherical shape. The tear drop shape applies only just as the drop falls from a surface. It would then take a somewhat spherical form, and then distort to a shape like an oblate spheroid that many call a ’hamburger shape.’ This is mainly because of the drag force on the falling drop causing it to be flattened. There are also other factors that give a raindrop its shape. Five key factors commonly agreed to affect the raindrop shape are

Derivation of Equation of Motion for the Pillow-Shape Seismic Base Isolation System
Rolling-based seismic isolation systems, in which rollers of circular or non-circular section are used, are less expensive and easier to manufacture. However, this type of isolation suffers from either lack of restoring or re-centering capability, or weakness against uplift forces. To resolve the first shortcoming the use of elliptical as well as pillow-shape rolling parts has been suggested, a...
متن کاملFeasibility Study of Rain Rate Monitoring from Polarimetric GNSS Propagation Parameters
In this work, the feasibility of estimating rain rate based on polarimetric Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals is explored in theory. After analyzing the cause of polarimetric signals, three physical-mathematical relation models between co-polar phase shift (KHH, KVV), specific differential phase shift (KDP), and rain rate (R) are respectively investigated. These relation models...
متن کاملEffect of Raindrops Impact on Hydraulic Properties of the Rill Flow under Slope Gradients
Few studies have been done regarding the role of the raindrop in the hydrodinamic mechanism of soil erosion. In this study, rainfall simulation experiments were conducted to evaluate the role of raindrop in runoff discharge, sediment concentration and hydraulic properties of flow under four slope gradients (5, 10, 15 and 20%) in a clay soil using a 90 mm.h-1 rainfall intensity to reach the stea...
متن کاملThe prevailing raindrop shape obtained by polarimetric radar measurements
Polarimetric radar measurements are used to retrieve properties of raindrop distributions. While there has been extensive research conducted on microphysical retrievals such as hydrometeor classification or hail detection, there has not been much research into polarimetric radar based deduction of raindrop shape even though the shape of raindrops plays a critical role in rainfall estimation fro...
متن کامل3-node Basic Displacement Functions in Analysis of Non-Prismatic Beams
Purpose– Analysis of non-prismatic beams has been focused of attention due to wide use in complex structures such as aircraft, turbine blades and space vehicles. Apart from aesthetic aspect, optimization of strength and weight is achieved in use of this type of structures. The purpose of this paper is to present new shape functions, namely 3-node Basic Displacement Functions (BDFs) for derivati...
